CHECKERED COLLECTION

While it is obviously a checkered pattern, the inspiration for this pattern comes from a subconscious storage in my head of imagery of daily life growing up in São Paulo. Drawn to brutalist architecture, sharp angles, concrete surfaces…

I’ve always been taking mental photos of commercial buildings with small square windows and grid-patterned garage gates. Perhaps the most obvious in-your-face inspiration, but not purposefully, is the ‘Piso Paulista’. The iconic sidewalk pattern designed by Milthes Bernardes.
