Beautiful and fascinating pottery of the Lobi people from Burkina Faso.
These lidded jars were made during the 20th C and would have been commissioned from a specialist potter.
They are used to store sacred liquids or medicine, and were used in special ceremonies or placed in domestic shrines devoted to ancestral spirits.
