Experience the art of figuration in a unique workshop led by Courtney Alan Rossy. Begin with a discussion around simplifying and interpreting the figure looking at Henri Matisse and other artists throughout art history, and explore watercolor and brush on paper under Courtney’s guidance.

Then, transition to ceramics, using underglazes to bring your paintings to life on pre-bisqued ceramic pieces made by Re Jin Lee. Explore the process of figure drawing on ceramics and create your own hand-painted artwork to take home.

Open to all skill levels, this workshop provides an engaging and creative experience for beginners and seasoned artists alike.

ABOUT COURTNEY ALAN ROSSY

Courtney Alan is an artist and educator living in Westchester County, NY. She received a BA from Boston College with a double major in Studio Art and Visual Communications. After working in graphic design and marketing in the magazine publishing industry, she received a Masters in Art and Art Education at Columbia University, painting in the same studio used by Georgia O’Keeffe, one of her longtime influences.

She has been teaching Art and Art History for over a decade, creating partnerships with local museums and arts organizations. These collaborations have allowed her to share her love of art, creative research, and the importance of immersing oneself in art.

Her studio practice focuses on exploration and growth with concepts that connect materiality with intellectual pursuits. Courtney’s work is deeply rooted in art history, art theory, psychology and philosophy finding inspiration in the work of Lee Krasner, Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Utagawa Hiroshige, Remedios Varo and numerous contemporary painters.

 

 

ITINERARY

12:00 - 1:00 PM
Intro & Demo
An introduction to the basics of figure drawing on paper, followed by a demonstration of the techniques.

1:00 - 3:00 PM
Figure Drawing on Ceramics
Learn and apply the techniques with underglaze to paint on the select pottery.

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Finish & Decorate
Complete your piece and add personalized decorative touches.


WHAT’S INCLUDED

  • All materials including two ceramic pieces made by Re Jin Lee to be painted on

  • Workshop guidance and support

  • Finishing of the piece and one kiln firing

  • Pick up arrangement (delivery is also available for an additional fee)


To ensure an intimate setting, this session is limited to a small group of 10 attendees (minimum 8*). To reserve your spot, full payment is required. Ticket sales are final. Kindly note, we cannot compensate for any travel related costs.

In the event that the minimum attendance of 8 participants is not reached, the workshop will be canceled and ticket holders will receive a refund.
